Matthew Henshaw, age 20, of Fort Myer is facing a host of charges following a months-long investigation into purported hate crimes that were reported online.

According to an Arlington County Police Department spokesperson, between September last year and January, the agency received five online reports for larcenies in the 200 block of South Courthouse Road.

Officials say that in each instance, a man approached the property during the early morning hours and stole a Pride flag from the outside of a home before leaving the scene.

The investigation led detectives to identify Henshaw and a second man from Long Island as suspects, and both are now facing charges.

Henshaw was arrested and charged with three counts each of unlawful entry - bias motivated, and petit larceny for incidents on Sept. 16 and Sept. 30 last year, and Jan. 27. He was released on a secured bond.

The second suspect, 23-year-old Joseph Digregorio, of Bay Shore, was also charged with petit larceny for an incident late last month. He was released on a summons.

The investigation into the stolen flags remains ongoing. Anyone with information has been asked to contact the department's tip line by calling (703) 228-4180.
